The Tirumala temple, one of the most sacred Hindu shrines, has long upheld a tradition requiring non-Hindu visitors to sign a declaration of faith. This form affirms their belief in Lord Venkateswara before they are allowed entry into the temple premises.
This practice became a topic of public discourse when the NDA government reportedly requested Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy to sign the declaration during his planned visit to Tirumala amid the Laddu controversy. After considerable deliberation, Jagan chose not to sign the document and eventually canceled his visit.
Jana Sena Party chief Pawan Kalyan had been vocal about this issue, urging Jagan—who is known to follow Christianity—to respect the temple’s tradition by signing the declaration form. Interestingly, Pawan Kalyan’s wife, Anna, appears to be following the very principle he advocated.
Anna is scheduled to visit the Tirumala temple tomorrow, following a deeply emotional period for her family. Her son, Mark Shankar, was recently involved in a school fire accident, and it is believed she prayed to Lord Venkateswara during this critical time. Ahead of her visit, she has signed the required declaration form, affirming her faith in the deity.
Her decision to comply with temple protocol reflects a respectful and responsible approach, setting an example that aligns with the sentiments expressed by Pawan Kalyan in the past. As religious customs continue to intersect with public figures’ actions, the declaration tradition at Tirumala remains a significant symbol of devotion and respect for sacred space.
